The predicted salary is between 46000 - 52000 £ per year.

You will be responsible for the management of the MRI service, ensuring efficient use of all available resources and implement demand and capacity management. You will work with the Centre Manager to develop training and MRI services at the Brighton Diagnostic & Treatment Centre and satellite sites. In the role, you will use your professional discretion and experience to ensure that clinical practice is carried out correctly, professionally and within the legal framework. You will manage the Radiographers working in and rotating through the MRI service and support the other Leads in managing the overall service.

Main duties of the job include independently performing a wide range of MRI scans on diverse patient groups while adhering to professional, legal, and departmental standards. It includes assessing and justifying referrals, interpreting clinical requirements to select appropriate imaging techniques, and ensuring high-quality diagnostic results. You will work autonomously, sometimes without a radiologist, and may adapt or extend standard protocols based on clinical needs. Responsibilities also include managing daily MRI service operations, optimising workload and appointment scheduling, resolving issues affecting patient flow, and coordinating equipment maintenance to minimise disruption. The role requires regular communication with clinicians regarding scan requests and producing reports on service performance, all while maintaining compliance with professional codes of conduct.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Conducting a wide range of MRI scans upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
  • Independently assessing and justifying referrals following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  • Interpreting Clinicians' requirements to determine the appropriate radiographic scan technique and ensuring that it is performed in accordance with best practice.
  • Using discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate.
  • Undertaking MRI scans in the absence of a radiologist according to agreed protocols.
  • Organising the day-to-day workload through the MRI services ensuring efficient use of all available resources.
  • Acting as an autonomous radiographer practitioner, meeting the standards set within the Health Professions Council's professional code of conduct.
  • Identifying problems affecting patient throughput and taking appropriate measures to resolve them.
  • Liaising with Clinicians about requests for MRI.
  • Providing monthly and annual reports detailing service progress.
  • Overseeing appointments to make best use of scanning time available.
  • Organising equipment service dates around the workload to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Person Specifications:

  • BSc Diagnostic Radiography or DCR Equivalent.
  • HCPC registration.
  • UK Driving Licence & access to a car.
  • Experience in a management position in an operational or service management capacity.
  • Experience of training and managing students.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations.
  • Diverse experience of cross-sectional imaging.
  • Excellent team working, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to manage staff effectively.
  • Well-developed analytical skills and innovative problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to work under own initiative to a high level with responsibility and commitment.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to contribute to the departmental education programme and deliver presentations to multidisciplinary groups.
  • Excellent patient care.
  • Ability to network with other departments in the hospital and relate to all grades of staff and groups of patients.
  • Possess mature judgement and decision-making skills and be highly reflective in thinking and outlook.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance.
