If you're a Product Manager in medical devices and you've been frustrated by being handed corporate collateral to disseminate rather than building your own product narrative, read on.

A Class III orthopaedic implants business are hiring a Product Manager (junior or senior, depending on background) to lead the Hip portfolio.

Why this role is different to most med device PM roles:

  • You'll be the internal SME for the portfolio.
  • Portfolio decisions like discontinuations, kit budget allocation across regions, product launch direction are yours.
  • You have real ownership of the commercial success of your area and are trusted to make those decisions.

When it comes to marketing, you'll generate content upstream and downstream, not just share what corporate hands you. It's down to you to work with marketing to shape the message. I am talking brochures, training, conference plays, surgeon facing presentations. The graphic designer handles execution but the ideas come from you.

Not forgetting you'll also stand in front of surgeons in multi disciplinary case meetings as the technical authority and handle the credibility moment when a surgeon wants to go deeper into the device.

The honest bit:

The business are small, so naturally the role is very hands on. You'll be writing event plans one day and chasing kit returns the next. There's no big PM team to hide behind.

What they're looking for:

  • Either prior Product Management (PM) experience in joints, or a procedure selling background in orthopaedics or adjacent areas (spine, biologics, extremities, trauma).
  • Sales, clinical support, NPD and marketing routes all considered.
  • Senior route requires direct joints experience.
  • Open to European relocators, should you have the right to work in the UK, but cannot offer sponsorship.
