Software Development & AI Internship 2026 in Cambourne

MediaTek makes complex 5G semiconductor chips at the heart of smartphones, tablets, voice assistants and IoT devices. You will join a friendly team in Cambridge developing systems, tools and software that are used globally to intelligently validate the embedded software written for our chips. Our systems execute on LINUX and Windows servers as well as on lab PCs. They collect vital data, intelligently adapt the validation and manage valuable hardware resources around the world. Our software is mainly written in Python, C++ and C#. We use databases to resiliently store TB of data and web languages to display sophisticated dashboards. You will be adding new features and AI to our software – improving capability, performance, and user experience. Our systems are used by 1000s of developers worldwide and you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with R&D colleagues in UK, Finland, India, Taiwan, and China.

• On track to obtain a Bachelor/master’s or PhD in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Passionate about software programming and eager to apply your skills to real‑world projects.
• Experienced in at least one object‑oriented language such as Java, C++, C#, or Python.
• A strong problem solver, always looking for innovative solutions.
• Motivated to learn new technologies and engineering approaches, including the application of ML and AI.

In addition, one or more of the following would be great (but not essential):

• Interest in developing smart tools to automate and optimize complex activities.
• Experience or curiosity in working with databases and manipulating large datasets, with or without AI.
• Familiarity with programming in Linux or Windows application environments.
• Enthusiasm for mobile technology and a desire to learn more about the inner workings of smartphones and related devices.

Duration: This is a full‑time internship starting in 2026, with a flexible start date. The placement will last between 9 to 12 months.

Location: This internship will be at our Cambourne, Cambridgeshire office, based 9 miles outside Cambridge city centre (with frequent direct bus services). Cambridge is also conveniently located within one hour from Central London, four main London airports and The Eurostar.
