Trade finance, the lubricant of global commerce, underpins over 80% of international trade, yet remains one of the most underreported sectors in financial journalism. Beneath the surface lies a rich landscape, involving geopolitical tensions, trade wars, ESG compliance, supply chain risk, and digital innovation through blockchain. It’s an industry that rewards deep reporting and informed analysis.

Our client is renowned for original, source-driven journalism and deep sector expertise. They consistently break market-moving stories while also producing thoughtful features and interviews that give shape to a complex industry. We’ve worked closely with them for nearly seven years, and their editorial team is known for its stability, high standards, and collaborative culture.

As Deputy Editor, you’ll join a small but ambitious team with global reach. You’ll help shape editorial output while continuing to write and commission original content. You’ll also play a visible role externally: moderating panel discussions, attending international events, and overseeing the growth of multimedia formats, including video and podcasts. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced financial journalist looking to step into a broader, more strategic role without leaving reporting behind.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Write and commission original news and feature content on trade finance and adjacent markets
  • Support the Editor with planning, copy editing, and mentoring junior reporters
  • Represent the publication at global industry events: chairing panels, conducting interviews, and building your network
  • Lead on multimedia development, including podcast series, video journalism, and on-stage interviews
Key requirements include:
  • A strong track record as a financial journalist, with demonstrable interest or experience in trade finance, credit, or cross-border markets
  • Some editing experience: mentoring colleagues, tightening copy, or supporting workflows
  • Confidence in external-facing roles, including moderating panels and conducting on-camera interviews
  • Experience or enthusiasm for managing multimedia content (video, podcasts, live events)

After passing your probation, you will be expected to work from their Clapham office no more than once a week.
