The Clinical Lead is responsible for providing professional clinical leadership, governance oversight, and quality assurance across healthcare services. The post holder will ensure that care is delivered safely, effectively, compassionately, and in accordance with regulatory requirements, clinical best practice, and organisational policies.

The Clinical Lead acts as the subject matter expert for clinical matters, supporting staff, managing clinical incidents and complaints, overseeing safeguarding concerns, conducting investigations, and driving continuous quality improvement across the organisation. This role plays a critical part in maintaining high standards of care, reducing risk, and ensuring positive outcomes for service users.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Governance & Leadership

  • Provide visible clinical leadership across all services.
  • Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead on clinical governance activities including audits, quality reviews, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Support management teams in meeting regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with CQC, Ofsted, HIQA, NMC, NMBI, RQIA, safeguarding, and relevant healthcare standards where applicable.
  • Act as the organisation's clinical expert for advice and guidance.

Clinical Oversight

  • Review care delivery to ensure safe and effective clinical practice.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support complex care packages and high-risk service users.
  • Review and approve clinical risk assessments and care plans.
  • Ensure staff operate within their scope of competence and professional registration requirements.
  • Support clinical decision-making and problem solving across services.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Act as a safeguarding lead or deputy safeguarding lead where required.
  • Support safeguarding referrals relating to adults and children.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities, Social Workers, Safeguarding Teams and other external agencies.
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are investigated and escalated appropriately.
