The Contractor role of Consultant is responsible for providing virtual specialist care to our patients, reviewing and triaging referrals and providing advice and guidance back to GPs, arranging and following up on investigations and writing onward referrals to hospital departments where necessary.
This role is on a Contractor arrangement either on an individual self-employed basis or working via your own personal services company, enabling you to work privately to supplement your NHS income and at the same time, be part of a team working to support transformation in the NHS.
As a Consultant, you will have the opportunity to be part of a new model of digital patient care, and able to work flexibly, for as many hours during any week as you may wish (providing patient cases are available).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide virtual specialist care to patients within your specialty.
- Review and triage referrals.
- Provide advice and guidance back to GPs, requesting and following up on investigations, and writing onward referrals to hospital departments where necessary.
- Recommend patients for telephone clerking assessments (by registrars and advanced nurse practitioners).
- Follow up on the results of investigations with patients, GPs and hospital departments.
- Create an appropriate and comprehensive clinical management plan including prescribing.
- Document patient information and plans of care via Medefer Secure IT platform.
- Complete patient outcome data fields to enable tracking and feedback to NHS England.
- Respond to complaints and concerns/significant events as necessary.
- Engage in appraisal and revalidation processes. Medefer will provide appraisal and designated body services to those with connections to it, if required.
EXPERIENCE,SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Substantive Consultant with at least 12 months working within a substantive NHS post.
- Currently working within an NHS role.
- Must be on the Specialist Register and able to provide up to date documents in accordance with clinical compliance requirements.
- Must be actively participating in annual appraisals, quality reviews and audits.
- Interested in digital health / clinical informatics / new ways of working.
- Excellent time management, planning and prioritising skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in conflict resolution, and able to collaborate with others confidently.
- Innovative and imaginative, a creative thinker, able to consider existing situations and problems to deliver innovative solutions.
- Excellent attention to detail, able to process detailed information effectively, consistently and accurately.
Qualifications
- A Consultant with at least 12 months experience working within a substantive NHS post in ENT.
- Registered with the GMC with an active licence to practice.
- On the Specialist Register and be able to provide current documents in accordance with clinical competence requirements.
- Have an interest in digital health, clinical informatics and in new ways of working.
- Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Possess excellent time management, planning, and prioritising skills.
- Be detail oriented, able to process detailed information effectively, consistently, and accurately.
