Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the designated service (e.g., Adult Inpatient, CMHT, Crisis Team, Old Age, Forensic, CAMHS depending on placement).
- Conduct risk assessments, formulation, and management plans in line with Trust and national guidelines.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ward rounds, and case discussions.
- Review patients regularly and document clinical findings, treatment plans, and progress notes to a high standard.
- Work collaboratively with Consultants, Nursing staff, Psychologists, Social Workers, and other MDT members to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Contribute to Mental Health Act assessments and related duties (Section 12 approval required).
- Support safe patient flow, including admissions, discharges, and crisis management.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide on call duties if required (rota dependent).
- Ensure compliance with NHS Trust policies, safeguarding procedures, and professional standards.
Essential Criteria
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Minimum 4 years post graduate experience, including at least 2 years in Psychiatry.
- Section 12 Approved under the Mental Health Act.
- Experience working within NHS mental health services.
- Strong skills in risk assessment, clinical decision making, and managing complex psychiatric presentations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in the specific subspecialty (e.g., Adult, CAMHS, Forensic, Old Age).
- Participation in teaching, supervision, or training of junior staff.
- Evidence of involvement in audits, QI projects, or research.
- MRCPsych exams completed or in progress.
Working Pattern
- Monday–Friday (9–5) or as per service needs.
- On call commitments may be included depending on the rota.
- Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
