We are seeking a GP at any stage of their career to work at the practice covering maternity cover for 6 sessions per week, minimum 4 months from July 2026, or earlier if available. We are a highly successful and well-staffed advanced training practice with a list size of approximately 18,000 patients. GPs typically undertake face-to-face consultations and duty on a rota system. Excellent Independent Pharmacists and ANP cover means you would see minimal home visits; admin/letters are efficiently organised by a strong administration team. You would have the option of being involved with teaching and training. The practice has 2 sites based in Rhymney and New Tredegar, all easily commutable from Cardiff, Swansea, Brecon, and Abergavenny. Ample on-site parking is provided. Great flexibility on working days and session timings. The team undertakes mid-morning coffee breaks together and lunch every day, which we feel is important.
Main duties of the job:
- In accordance with the practice rota, the post holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face and telephone triage, dealing with queries, results, making appropriate and timely referrals, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, however, this is reducing following moving to electronic prescribing.
- Occasionally undertake home visits although these are mainly undertaken by ANP and Registrars.

We are a friendly forward-thinking training practice, well supported with 8 partners, 4 Salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, 2 IP Pharmacists, 5 Practice Nurses, 3 HCAs, and 1 Phlebotomist. Working alongside us, we have a host of support from Physiotherapists, Community Connectors, and Psychological Health Practitioners. Our main site is a relatively new purpose-built premises at the Rhymney Integrated Health & Social Care Centre which also has a dentist, opticians, and pharmacy.
Job responsibilities:
- The post holder will be available to undertake a variety of duties including face-to-face and telephone consultations and queries, carrying out home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries, results, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
- Assessing the health care needs of patients, screening for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Making appropriate and timely referral of patients for further opinions and treatment.
- Dealing with incoming electronic correspondence and pathology results.
- In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities of a GP working in primary care.

- Registered on the Welsh NHS performers list.
- Confident with EMIS.
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
