Medacs Healthcare is delighted to be recruiting Functional Assessors (Work Capability Assessors) on behalf of our respected client within the Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS). This is an excellent opportunity for a Nurse, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist seeking a non-patient-facing clinical role that offers structured assessments, hybrid working, and meaningful impact.

About the Role

As a Functional Assessor (WCA), you will carry out telephone, video, and face-to-face health and disability assessments to evaluate how a claimant's medical conditions affect their daily activities and ability to work. Using your clinical knowledge and critical thinking, you will produce high-quality, evidence-based assessment reports that support DWP decision-making. This role is well-suited to clinicians who enjoy structured processes, analytical assessments, and meaningful conversations that help people access the right support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive functional, health and disability assessments across physical, mental, cognitive and intellectual domains
  • Use active listening and clinical reasoning to collect accurate evidence
  • Produce clear, high-quality clinical reports
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, support organisations and charities
  • Maintain professional standards and complete ongoing CPD
  • Meet service KPIs while providing an empathetic, claimant-centred experience
  • Participate in audits, feedback and quality improvement processes

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 12 months post-qualification experience as a Nurse, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Doctor
  • NMC / HCPC / GMC registration with no restrictions
  • Broad clinical experience across varied health conditions
  • Strong communication, assessment and report-writing skills
  • Ability to type 35 wpm and use IT systems effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail, time-management and professional integrity
