Medacs Healthcare is delighted to be recruiting Functional Assessors (PIP Assessors) on behalf of our respected client within the Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS). This is an excellent opportunity for a Nurse, Paramedic, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist seeking a non‑patient‑facing clinical role that offers structured assessments, hybrid working, and meaningful impact.
About the Role
As a Functional Assessor (PIP), you will conduct telephone, video, and face‑to‑face functional assessments to evaluate how a claimant's health conditions impact their ability to carry out everyday activities safely, repeatedly and reliably, in line with PIP guidance. You will be the key point of contact during the assessment, gathering detailed evidence using active listening, clinical reasoning and an empathetic approach. Working across a wide variety of health conditions, you'll apply your clinical expertise, critical thinking and judgement to produce accurate, high‑quality assessment reports using DWP systems and processes. This is a role suited to clinicians who enjoy structured assessments, problem‑solving, and supporting people through clear, sensitive communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out telephone, video and/or face‑to‑face functional assessments to determine a claimant's ability to undertake daily living activities repeatedly and safely.
- Act as the claimant's point of contact during the consultation, supporting individuals with a wide range of health conditions and disabilities.
- Investigate the impact of variable, chronic and multiple health issues, gathering evidence through active listening and appropriate questioning.
- Apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning to produce accurate, detailed and structured reports using DWP processes and systems.
- Ensure reports meet required quality standards, including accuracy, clarity, grammar and adherence to DWP criteria.
- Support delivery of KPIs by contributing to an efficient and effective assessment service.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 12 months post‑qualification experience as a Nurse, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Paramedic.
- NMC / HCPC / registration with no restrictions.
- Broad clinical experience across varied health conditions.
- Strong communication, assessment and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to type 35 wpm and use IT systems effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail, time‑management and professional integrity.
