Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced theatre department? We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Scrub Nurse to work in Basildon University Hospital for short and long term placements as well as ad-hoc shifts in a variety of NHS Hospitals and Private Organisations.
As a Scrub Nurse working in Basildon University Hospital alongside Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Theatre Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), Theatre Support Workers and Porters to provide skilled care and support throughout a patient’s perioperative care.
You will be joining a friendly team of medical and nursing staff who are passionate about what they do and the services they provide to both patients and visitors.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
As a Scrub Nurse you will:
- Monitor and maintain a safe and sterile environment for the patient throughout the surgical procedure.
- To safely identify, prepare, check and assemble equipment required for the relevant operating list
- Prepare and organise the clinical area to receive patients for elective, emergency, and trauma procedures.
- Coordinate and maintain adequate stock levels of drugs, stores and implants liaising with the Theatre Manager and / Procurement.
- Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information using various methods to ensure effective understanding.
- Demonstrate and develop clinical assessment skills and prioritise the care for patients undergoing a surgical / anaesthetic procedure.
- Contribute to the continuing development of patient care within the operating theatres, e.g. through sharing knowledge and expertise as required.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications
As a Scrub Nurse it is essential that you hold:
- Current NMC/HCPC registration
- At least 1 years’ post-graduate experience.
- 6 months recent UK experience within the last 3 years.
