Rate: £120-£130ph PAYE only
Contract Type: Locum (short-term and long-term assignments available)
Start Date: ASAP. Adhoc dates required across 3 sites. Rota available on request.
To undertake typical plastic surgery local anaesthetic skin work as well as outpatient clinics for skin lesions. These will be undertaken in a "plastic surgery" setting (i.e. fully staffed operating theatre setup, or at least minor ops theatre, rather than dermatology procedure room). There may be some requirement for grafts and local flaps. The case mix will be predominantly BCC with some low complexity melanoma or SCC. There will be access to local and specialist skin cancer MDTs and colleagues to discuss cases with and have peer support from.
Patient numbers:
- Half day clinic approx. 12-13 patients
- Half day theatre list approx. 4-6 patients depending on complexity
As a locum Consultant in Plastic Surgery, you will provide expert care and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment and surgical management of patients requiring plastic, reconstructive, or hand surgery.
- Lead operative procedures across trauma, elective, and emergency plastic surgery lists.
- Deliver expert inpatient and outpatient care, including ward rounds, clinics, and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Offer clinical leadership to junior doctors, nursing teams, and theatre staff.
- Ensure safe, timely decision‑making for complex reconstructive cases.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold high standards of clinical governance.
- Support teaching and supervision of registrars, core trainees, and medical students.
- Engage in quality improvement, audits, and review of clinical outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow local trust policies and adhere to GMC and specialty standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Previous NHS experience
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check - or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process
- UK Right to Work
- Strong communication and teamworking skills
Desirable:
- CCT in Plastic Surgery (or within 6 months of achieving it)
