Pre-operative assessment Nurse - 9 month booking - Monday- Friday
Location: James Paget University Hospital NHS Trust
Salary: £270-£360 per day
Shift Patterns: Monday - Friday

We are recruiting Pre-operative assessment Nurses to assist pre-operative clinics for adult patients listed for elective surgery in the specialities of General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and Gynaecology.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct full nursing assessments, including medical history, social history, vital signs, and physical examinations.
- Risk & Fitness Evaluation: Determine a patient’s surgical risk and optimize their health status for the procedure (e.g., blood pressure, diabetes control).
- Diagnostic Coordination: Arrange and interpret tests like ECGs, blood tests, and X-rays, or refer for further specialist assessment.
- Patient Education: Explain the surgery, pre-op care, post-op expectations, and provide guidance on hygiene and medications.
- Patient Support: Offer reassurance, answer questions, and address psychological concerns, acting as a key point of contact.
- Documentation & Communication: Maintain detailed records, report risks, and liaise with surgical/anesthetic teams.
- Discharge Planning: Identify and address potential discharge issues early to facilitate a smooth recovery.

What You’ll Need
