Service Scope:
James Paget University Hospital NHS Trust (JPUH) requires an Insourcing provider to support elective care demands and successful delivery of its RTT and Cancer constitutional standards. The provider must be able to deliver a full pre-operative assessment team to undertake both major and minor pre-operative assessment clinics. Although the service will be insourced, the provider must utilise the James Paget University Hospital NHS Trust (JPUH) estate Monday-Friday. The service will be nurse-led and delivered in line with best practice and locally agreed pathways. The pre-operative clinics will see patients listed for both major and minor surgical procedures. The activity will predominantly be for adult patients listed for elective surgery for the specialities of General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics & Gynaecology. Clinics will run all day, 5 days per week and are expected to start and finish on time. All activity will be recorded and documented on JPUH IT systems. The award of this contract guarantees a minimum level of activity each week of 150 patients. The Trust reserves the right to vary, reduce or suspend activity at its discretion.
Service Delivery Requirements:
Clinics will be delivered at James Paget University Hospital NHS Trust (JPUH) with suitable estate to facilitate outpatients. All consumables and equipment are provided by JPUH. Histology is processed by JPUH. All patients are booked by JPUH.
Workforce Requirements:
- 2 x Major Clinics (up to 9 patients per day per clinic)
- 1 x Consultant Anaesthetist
- 1 x Nurse Practitioner or Senior House Officer (SHO)
- 2 x Band 5 Pre-operative assessment Nurses
- Day Case Clinic (up to 12 patients per day)
- 1 x Band 5 Pre-operative assessment Nurse
- Additional Support
- 1 x Receptionist (Arriving and leaving patients, clinic preparation)
- 1 x Admin Support (Transfer of paperwork on day, assisting with clinic preparation, general admin tasks)
Working hours are 08:00-18:00 with 30 minutes lunch. Pre-operative rotas should be confirmed and locked in six weeks. All staff will need to complete Trust mandatory training requirements, service inductions and patient clinical system training before undertaking any work for JPUH. New staff must make themselves available to undertake these training sessions ahead of any weekend working and in line with service availability to avoid disruption on the day. The provider is responsible for the vetting of all staff undertaking the contract and is responsible for ensuring that all staff have the required qualifications, experience and clear DBS checks completed prior to starting. The Trust has on site accommodation. Requests are subject to room availability. Applications for accommodation will need to be requested in advance. Costs are associated.
