Role: Locum Consultant in Neurology
Rates: £100 - £125 per hour (PAYE)
Shifts: Full Time, Monday to Friday
Location: Ninewells Hospital
This is a full time (10 programmed activities) one-year locum post. Applications for part-time working will be considered.
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and forward-looking multidisciplinary team providing a general neurological service for patients in Tayside and Northeast Fife through clinics in Dundee and Perth.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Participate in the Neurology service with responsibility for new and review consultations in outpatient clinics and consultations within hospitals in Tayside.
- Provide neurological care with responsibility for a caseload of in-patients and outpatients.
- Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of the department.
- Provide sub‑specialist care in collaboration with other consultant neurologists.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff attached to the unit.
- Participate in under‑graduate medical student teaching.
- Work flexibly with other members of the multi professional teams.
- Be flexible in any future discussions regarding allocation of duties.
SHIFTS
Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm with 4 clinics or 9.00am to 5.00pm plus on call with 3 clinics.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of neurological conditions in inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
- Lead on the delivery of evidence-based neurological care in line with NHS and GMC guidelines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including neurosurgery, stroke, neurophysiology, and rehabilitation services.
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, and research projects to advance service quality.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and ensure timely communication with primary care and referring clinicians.
- Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to teaching and training.
- Perform comprehensive evaluations and regularly review patient progress and treatment outcomes.
- Engage in continuous professional development and contribute medical research.
Qualifications / Licences / Certifications
- Be a GMC registered Doctor with full licence to practice.
- Must have evidence of Right to Work in the UK.
- Ideally, Completion of higher training (CCT or within 6 months of obtaining).
- Have relevant experience at consultant level, or references to support your transition up to Consultant level.
- Applicants without CCT registration must be able to demonstrate substantial prior experience working at consultant grade.
- Will need to pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
- Willing to work as PAYE only and not Ltd; this is locum work for NHS hospitals and not private or insourcing work.
