Role: Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

Rates: £100 – £125 per hour (PAYE)

Shifts: 09:00am – 17:00pm, Monday to Friday

Location: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary

Role Description

As a locum consultant in respiratory medicine, you will support patient demand in both acute respiratory and general medicine, utilizing your skills to deliver high-quality patient care, especially for complex cases involving multiple symptoms and conditions.

You will work flexible shifts at NHS Dumfries & Galloway , providing expertise in diagnostic reasoning and managing acute exacerbations of COPD, while also mentoring junior doctors and trainees.

The NHS Dumfries & Galloway emphasizes medical development, offering access to advanced equipment and opportunities in research and academia.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support patients and families, communicating diagnoses and treatment options clearly.
  • Coordinate and prescribe treatment plans.
  • Monitor and care for patients continuously.
  • Engage in shared decision-making with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary team activities.
  • Assess needs, delegate tasks effectively, and prioritize patient care.
  • Recognize, review, and report patient condition changes.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping, prescriptions, and monitoring treatments.
  • Conduct research to develop and improve procedures and equipment.
  • Teach and train junior doctors, medical students, and team members.

Qualifications & Licenses

  • GMC registered Doctor (not necessarily on the Specialist Register).
  • Relevant consultant-level experience or supporting references.
  • Evidence of Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).
  • Pass an enhanced DBS check.
