Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the finance function. This role will play a key part in ensuring accurate financial processing, maintaining strong supplier and customer relationships, and supporting core accounting processes across weekly and monthly cycles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage credit control activities, including chasing outstanding payments and maintaining accurate debtor records
  • Respond to and resolve customer queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Handle ad hoc finance queries from internal and external stakeholders
  • Process purchase ledger invoices, ensuring accuracy and appropriate approvals
  • Review and process staff expense claims in line with company policy
  • Set up and maintain supplier accounts in Sage
  • Process bank transactions, ensuring accurate posting and coding
  • Support the preparation of bank reconciliations
  • Assist in producing weekly cash flow forecasts

Monthly Tasks

  • Perform reconciliation of engineer timesheets
  • Reconcile supplier statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Assist with payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate data input
  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including additions and disposals

Skills And Experience Required

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts assistant role desirable
  • Understanding of purchase ledger, credit control, and reconciliations
  • Experience with Sage 50 (or similar accounting software) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a positive work ethic
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
