We’re a leading global specialist in advanced industrial technologies and solutions for the power generation and heavy industrial sectors. We’re looking for a technically strong, customer-focused Mechanical Engineer to join our Commercial Operations team in Dumbarton. This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who is confident working with Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and enjoys applying first-principles engineering knowledge to real customer challenges — combining technical depth with proposals, applications support, and client engagement.
About the Role
You will be the key technical expert helping customers select, configure, and apply our specialised industrial equipment. A core part of the role is creating, reviewing, and revising P&IDs, alongside performing calculations and delivering strong technical proposals that lead to successful project outcomes. You’ll work closely with Sales, Contracts, and Aftermarket teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, revise, and maintain Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using CAD (AutoCAD, Solid Edge or similar) – this is a central element of the role
- Provide technical support for product selection, configuration, and applications
- Perform pressure and flow calculations for industrial systems
- Review technical proposals and orders to identify and mitigate risks
- Create and deliver technical presentations and reports to customers (virtually and in-person)
- Support tender preparation and collaborate with internal engineering teams
- Contribute to product improvements, engineering standards, and new technology development
- Produce clear, high-quality technical documentation (especially Excel)
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics and mechanics from first principles
- Practical experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment
- Proven experience preparing and revising P&IDs using CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Edge or similar)
- Experience with technical calculations
