About the Opportunity
Mech Electrics Ltd are proud to be the retained recruitment partner for the UK’s leading specialist in delivering complex, high-value energy infrastructure and decarbonisation projects.
We are exclusively recruiting for a Project Director to lead a landmark, multi-phase infrastructure and energy project at one of the UK’s major airports. This transformative programme will transition all property assets across the estate to carbon neutral operation by 2030 — a high-profile, nationally significant undertaking.
The Project Scope
At the heart of this £250M programme is the construction of a £75M Major Energy Centre, incorporating:
- Air Source and Heat Source Pumps
- District Heating Network covering the entire airport estate
- Comprehensive Energy Upgrades to existing and new buildings
- Complete Electrical Infrastructure Overhaul — enabling a fully electric campus, with infrastructure to support plant, machinery, vehicles, and EV charging networks
This is a complex, multi-disciplinary project that will shape the future of sustainable infrastructure delivery in the UK.
The Role
As Project Director, you will:
- Lead the pre-construction and planning phase (12 months) — working alongside in-house design, commercial, and pre-construction teams
- Develop the project’s milestone deliverables and strategy across its life cycle to 2030
- Oversee the safe, efficient, and commercially sound delivery of the entire scheme
- Act as a senior figurehead, liaising closely with the client’s leadership team, external stakeholders, contractors, and design consultants
- Manage risk, programme, commercial performance, and quality outcomes
Candidate Profile
We’re looking for a senior, proven leader with:
- A demonstrable track record of delivering major, complex MEP projects — ideally incorporating Energy Centres, District Heating, and Electrical Infrastructure
- Experience in managing projects valued at least £50M+
- A strong understanding of carbon reduction technologies, modern infrastructure systems, and airport or estate-wide projects
- The ability to strategically plan and lead pre-construction activities, whilst managing large, multi-disciplinary teams over a long project lifecycle
- A collaborative, forward-thinking, and pragmatic leadership style
Why Apply?
- Be part of a high-profile, nationally significant project that will garner major public attention
- Join the UK’s leading specialist contractor in sustainable infrastructure — with in-house design, commercial, pre-construction, and operational delivery expertise
- Enjoy a long-term, 5-year leadership role on a complex, flagship programme
- Enhance your CV with a career-defining project in the decarbonisation and infrastructure sector
