We are seeking a commercially-minded Project Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of assigned projects, working closely with the Project Manager to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and in line with company standards. You will play a key role in monitoring costs, managing risk, and ensuring financial control across all project activities.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Issue the CVR monthly and attend CVR meetings.
- Advise on labour cost variances and agree valuation schedules with contractors.
- Attend estimating and handover meetings; set start and target margins.
- Recalculate profit margins and perform monthly cost-to-complete assessments.
- Manage the Risk Register and escape key issues to the Operations Director.
- Oversee sub-contractor contra-charges, retention releases, and final account statements.
- Take off quantities from drawings and submit Applications for Payment on time.
- Ensure variations are correctly priced, submitted, and tracked.
- Monitor material costs, cost budgets, and preliminary schedules.
- Agree labour rates and planned prelims with management.
- Conduct weekly site walks with the Project Manager to review progress and issues.
- Ensure proper commercial contract administration and follow up on certifications or delay notices.
- Mentor and train less experienced staff, fostering their growth in line with company values.
Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 4 or a Construction Management/Surveying degree (or working towards).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Project or Senior Quantity Surveyor in sub-contracting or principal contracting.
- Commercially responsible for projects or packages, preferably in a finishing trade.
- Experience reporting project status in terms of progress, cost, value, and risk.
