Contract Type: Fixed Term Apprenticeship

Salary:

  • Age 16–18: £7.96 per hour — 40 hours per week (including time at college)
  • Age 19–20: £11.06 per hour — 42.5 hours per week (including time at college)
  • Age 21+: £12.21 per hour (rising to £12.71 in April) — 42.5 hours per week (including time at college)

Training provider: You will join Mears Group in the week commencing 03/08/2026, and your apprenticeship course will begin in the week commencing 21/09/2026. The programme has an expected duration of approximately 24 months.

What does a life as a Plasterer look like? Plastering is a core function within the construction sector especially in house building and refurbishments. As a plasterer you will have to learn about all the different products and understand how to manage a job which will be different depending on the materials you are using. You will be responsible for mixing and applying different kinds of plaster to inside walls and ceilings, working with dry lining, and putting protective coverings onto external walls such as pebble dashing to protect and waterproof buildings. Roles in plastering are physical in nature and may involve lifting and moving of equipment, working at height and will involve working inside and outside.

The apprenticeship course will cover the following:

  • Identifying and confirming plastering requirements and components against a survey/job sheet/specification/drawings/CAD/BIM and in accordance with Building Regulations
  • Preparing the site/work area (including access equipment when necessary), power and hand tools appropriate to the project
  • Locate, handle, store, load, transport and position plastering materials and components safely, minimising damage so they are ready for application and where applicable, in accordance with Working at Height regulations
  • Preparing background substrates for internal solid plastering, dry lining and external rendering
