About the Role

We are looking for a Facilities Operative to join our Facilities Management (FM) team in Livingston. The role delivers a range of hard, soft, and grounds maintenance services to support a school site and ensure efficient, high-standard maintenance, compliance, cleaning and grounds tasks. The candidate will manage day-to-day operations such as setting up tables and chairs for lunch service, replacing locks, performing general maintenance, carrying out statutory compliance duties (flushing taps, checking boiler functionality), and ensuring a safe, clean and well-maintained environment for staff, students and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general maintenance tasks, basic repairs and upkeep.
  • Set up rooms for school activities, including tables and chairs for lunch service.
  • Perform statutory compliance duties such as flushing taps, boiler checks and manual handling tasks.
  • Use cleaning equipment safely and effectively; uphold cleaning standards for communal and specialist areas.
  • Identify and report faults, hazards or maintenance issues promptly.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience in general maintenance and a Facilities Management (FM) environment.
  • Good knowledge of cleaning standards and techniques for communal and specialist areas.
  • Basic knowledge of statutory compliance duties (e.g. flushing taps, boiler checks).
  • Basic IT literacy for logging tasks or completing compliance records.
  • Physical fitness and ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely.
  • Willingness to work weekends and participate in a rota-based schedule.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and liaising with site staff.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a wider team.
  • Positive can-do attitude, reliable, punctual and committed to high standards of service.
  • Willingness to undertake training and develop new skills across hard, soft, and grounds maintenance.
