About the Role:

To Instruct, supervise and monitor Electrical Operatives and/or Electrical Contractors working on our clients housing stock ensuring that any electrical Installations which are worked on are safe for continued use to safeguard the service users, members of the public, clients personnel and Mears employees from any potential danger associated with electricity.

  • To ensure that ALL electrical work is carried in accordance with The Electricity @ Work Regulations 1989 and in line with the requirements of BS 7671 (as amended) and Mears Electrical Procedures and Policies.

  • To supervise and oversee electrical work carried out by branch electrical operatives and/or by any sub-contractors.

  • To undertake an annual assessment by an external governing body (NICEIC) to ensure that both themselves and the branch retain their registration in accordance with the NICEIC rules of registration.

  • To be the main point of contact between Mears Technical Compliance Team/NICEIC/SHEQ, General/Branch managers and supervisors, Electrical Contractors and where appropriate the client.

  • As required, to ensure that financial and contractual obligations are met, electrical forms are to be checked for accuracy and verified using MCM view on a regular basis, ensuring that no “Back Log” builds up.

  • To ensure that Inspection and Testing is carried out on ALL electrical work, checking that all results are accurate and complete. To maintain all paperwork and electronic data records relevant to the work carried out and to ensure completion of the job is confirmed and a comprehensive and accurate history is available for audit purposes, which includes quality, H&S issues and for invoicing purposes.

  • To carry out regular Quality Audits and Competence Assessments of the electrical operatives and electrical contractors.

  • To meet regularly with electrical contractors and to record all discussion points ensuring that any issues are dealt with promptly.

  • To deliver regular Tool Box Talks of an electrical/SHE nature, either as indicated by Technical Compliance or from findings of audits, certification issues or as requested by electrical operatives or others.

  • To be responsible for the internal calibration of all test kits and to keep records on Mears Plant and Equipment database in line with Mears published guidelines. At the same time to be responsible for the safe keeping of the electrical library, electrical test kits, lock off kits and any other equipment issued by Mears and in use by the electrical operatives.

  • To attend informal and formal meetings and training sessions to ensure up to date business and job knowledge, communication, skills & progression are maintained. This includes but is not limited to training, re-training, toolbox talks, 1:1’s, probation reviews etc.

  • To adopt a professional manner when communicating with service users and/or client/external contacts to build and maintain a positive view of Mears Group. This includes but is not limited to appearance, company ID, communication.

  • To highlight any safeguarding concerns to the relevant customer and community officer within branch as early as possible to ensure they liaise with the client in accordance with the safeguarding policy.

  • To use and maintain company vehicle/van in accordance with company vehicle & insurance policies in order to ensure safety, compliance, accurate and timely reporting of damage, cleanliness & condition (inside and out). This includes but is not limited to daily photographic recording of condition.

Role Criteria:

  • Previous experience in Qualified Supervisor role

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation to include AM2

  • 18th edition (will accept 17th edition is you’re committed to taking the qualification)

  • Inspection and Testing 2391/2 or equivalent

All our roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK, Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship.

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21 have held your licence over 3 months and have less than 9 points.

Candidates should be aware that all our roles are subject to relevant DBS/Security checks before commencement of employment.
