What does a role as a Roofer look like: As an apprentice roofer you will be involved in a variety of tasks to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills. You will learn how to perform routine maintenance and repairs on pitched and flat roofs, prepare surfaces, and install new roofing systems to include installing underlay and battens to provide a secure base for tiles and slates. You will learn about health and safety guidelines, including working at heights and using appropriate safety equipment. This hands-on experience will help you develop a strong foundation in roofing techniques and prepare you for a successful career in the industry.
The apprenticeship course will cover the following:
- The principles of health, safety, and welfare.
- The different techniques and methods used to move, handle and store materials.
- How to interpret and use relevant product information and specifications.
- The standards and codes of practice that apply to roofing.
- Set up, check and operate equipment.

- The potential to work at SCQF level 6/7
- The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks
