What does a role as a Bricklayer look like:
Bricklaying is a core function within the construction sector especially in house building and refurbishments. As a Bricklayer you will have to learn to lay bricks, blocks, and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures e.g., chimney stacks. You might also refurbish brickwork and masonry as well as seal foundations with damp resistant materials.
The apprenticeship course will cover the following:
- Develop and maintain good working relations
- Read construction drawings
- Measure the work area and transfer sizes
- Set out the work area
- Prepare and mix mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
- Erect masonry structures
- Repair and maintain masonry structures
- Shape and trim bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools
- Check that courses are plumb and level using laser levels, spirit levels and plumb lines.
What do you need to be a successful applicant:
- Candidates must have the potential to work at SCQF level 6/7
- The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships.
- The recruitment process will consist of an entrance test with highest scoring candidates progressing to an interview for final selection.
