Compliance Technician in Newcastle upon Tyne

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Salary up to £30,510.38 per annum, plus, commercial vehicle and fuel card

Hours: 42.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 5.00pm

About Mears

Mears provides temporary accommodation to asylum seekers whilst their claim is being assessed in three regions: Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. At the end of May 2021 Mears had over 19,000 service users across the three regions. Mears works in partnership with central and local Government, registered providers, tenants, landlords and investors to find solutions to homelessness, provide more social and affordable housing and create specialist housing for people with care needs.

As a Compliance Technician you will be responsible for completing approximately 20 tenanted property compliance checks per day across Newcastle. The role includes carrying out monthly fire alarm and smoke alarm tests, monthly emergency lighting checks, and monthly Legionella water hygiene checks in occupied properties. The successful candidate must work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, ensure all checks are completed in line with current regulations and company procedures, and accurately record results and findings using the required documentation or handheld systems.

Responsibilities

• Complete approximately 20 tenanted property compliance checks per day across Newcastle
• Carry out monthly fire alarm and smoke alarm tests
• Perform monthly emergency lighting checks
• Perform monthly Legionella water hygiene checks in occupied properties
• Ensure checks are completed in line with current regulations and company procedures
• Accurately record results and findings using the required documentation or handheld systems

Requirements

• Experience in similar duties as above
• Full UK driving licence
• Trustworthy
• Excellent communication to communicate to tenants and other colleagues
• Hardworking

Additional requirements

• To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for over 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points.
• As part of the recruitment process for this role, we will carry out a Background, Identity, Security clearance and BPSS check. For these checks to be completed, we will require from you the relevant identification, including Proof of Address, References, a valid passport and proof that you have lived in the UK for the last 5 years.
