Contract: Full Time Permanent
Salary: up to £42,840 per annum, plus company van & fuel card
Hours: 42.5 hours per week (8:00–17:00, Monday – Friday)
Team and scope: The Task Team (Central) with our South Team (based in Essex) and North Team (based in Durham). We mobilise, demobilise and support contracts across Mears; we provide support for contracts that are understaffed or have works in progress that need reducing. We primarily carry out repairs on Day to Day/Response works, and are occasionally used for Voids and Planned works. Main areas of work include Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Leicester, Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent, with surrounding areas; travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
Role purpose: Support a busy responsive repairs contract in Coventry. This is a hands-on role delivering high-quality carpentry repairs and maintenance in occupied social housing properties to ensure homes are safe, functional and well maintained.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out day-to-day carpentry repairs in occupied properties as part of a responsive maintenance service
- Replace and repair internal doors, frames, handles, locks and hinges
- Fit and adjust kitchen units, worktops, cupboard doors and pelmets
- Install or replace skirting boards, architraves and other decorative joinery
- Repair or replace timber flooring, stair components and handrails as required
- Make good following repairs, including basic patch plastering or tiling as needed
- Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations
- Accurately record job details, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
- Work professionally and respectfully in residents’ homes, maintaining a clean and safe working environment
- Identify and report any additional works, safeguarding concerns or property issues beyond the scope of the job
- Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures at all times
- Provide high levels of customer care
Role Criteria:
- Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance in a carpentry position
- Experience in the duties listed above
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
- Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
- willingness to participate in out-of-hours emergency rota
