What Does a Life As a Painter Look Like

A painter’s job involves working in a variety of settings, including residential homes, commercial buildings, offices, schools, and industrial sites and domestic households. Their primary responsibility is to prepare surfaces and apply various decorative finishes to enhance the appearance and protection of walls, floors, ceilings, and other structures.

The Apprenticeship Course Will Cover

  • Develop and maintain good working relations.
  • Read technical instructions.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating.
  • Apply water borne surface coatings.
  • Apply solvent borne surface coatings.
  • Hang wallcoverings.
  • Apply coatings using air and airless spraying.
  • Apply coating to produce textured coatings.
  • Install coving.
  • Produce decorative effects.

What You Need to be a Successful Applicant

  • The potential to work at SCQF level 6/7
  • The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships
  • You must live within a North Lanarkshire postcode and be able to independently travel to and from the branch

Application Process

All applicants must submit their CV and complete the apprenticeship questionnaire via the Mears Careers website. If shortlisted, you will be contacted to confirm whether you have been selected for the next stage – this may be an assessment centre or an individual interview. Please note: as part of the selection process, you will be required to complete a basic maths and English test, similar to the assessments needed to join the college. All our roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK; Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship. To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for more than 3 months and have less than 9 points. Candidates should be aware that all our roles are subject to relevant Background, Identity & Security checks before commencement of employment.
