The apprenticeship course will begin week‑commencing 07/09/2026, after joining Mears Group week‑commencing 03/08/2026. Programme length is approximately 24 months.

About the Role

As a Multi Skilled Operative you will work on building sites, domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components from erection to installation of fixtures and fittings, and performing repair and maintenance activities in both new and old buildings.

  • Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Identify and use safety control equipment, e. g. RPE, dust suppression, PPE and LEV.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, segregating resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Comply with industry regulations and guidance.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe working area.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Estimate required materials and produce a cutting list.
  • Verbally communicate using construction terminology.
  • Use and store laser levels, e. g. cross‑line laser.
  • Form connections using joints, nails, screws, bolts and adhesive.
  • Apply measuring, marking out, cutting (square and angled), mitering, hinging and recessing techniques.
  • Carry out splicing and scribing techniques.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths grade 3 or above.
  • Ability to travel to college provider and branch when required.
  • Genuine desire to learn and develop strong technical knowledge, including safety procedures, and technology needed for full range of tasks.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive customer and client relationships.
  • Basic Maths & English test (and possible practical test at interview) required due to role nature.
