Contract Type: Fixed‑Term Apprenticeship | Location: Caerphilly | Start: 03/08/2026 (Week 1), Apprenticeship course starts 21/09/2026. Expected duration: 48 months.
Hourly rates (including college attendance):
- Age 16–18: £8.00 per hour – 40 hrs/week
- Age 19–20: £11.06 per hour – 42.5 hrs/week
- Age 21+: £12.71 per hour – 42.5 hrs/week

What a day as a Gas Engineer looks like:
- Assist with the installation, maintenance & repair of plumbing systems, diagnose and resolve faults, and provide customers with advice on appliance use and energy efficiency.
The apprenticeship course covers:
- Health & safety legislation, codes of practice and safe working practices
- Selection, planning, installation, testing, commissioning & de‑commissioning, service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of cold water, hot water, central heating, above ground drainage and rainwater systems
- Installation and testing of electrical components and control systems on plumbing & domestic heating systems
- Principles of domestic mechanical environmental technology systems
- Fuel combustion, ventilation and fuelling arrangements within a domestic environment
- High‑quality customer service and establishing the needs of others, respecting the working environment including customers’ properties
- Communication methods, clear, articulate and appropriate communication, adapting style to suit different situations
Qualifications and requirements:
- GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above
- Must live within the MK postcode
- Ability to travel to the college provider and branch when required
- A genuine desire to learn and develop strong technical knowledge, including safety procedures needed to carry out the full range of tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive customer and client relationships
- Complete a basic maths and English assessment (required for the role)
