St Helen’s Primary Academy in Barnsley is hiring a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching across all year groups by delivering small-group interventions, covering whole-class lessons, and supporting teachers to help every child access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Location: St Helen’s Way, Barnsley, S71 2PS, United Kingdom

Hours: 32.5 per week

Contract: Fixed Term (August 2027)

Salary: £28,598 – £31,022 (actual) pro-rate, including well-being cash plan, LGPS pension scheme and additional Lift Schools benefits.

About the role

Working closely with teachers, you will plan and deliver small-group interventions, cover whole-class sessions when required, and help create a learning environment where each pupil feels safe, valued and inspired to achieve their best.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver small-group interventions and cover whole-class lessons when required.
  • Support assessment and observations to inform planning.
  • Encourage children’s social and emotional development.
  • Build strong relationships with families, supporting parental involvement.
  • Line-manage other teaching assistants where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience working as a teaching assistant in a primary setting.
  • SEND intervention skills and awareness.
  • Motivated and passionate about supporting young children to give the best start in education.
  • Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
