Mead Primary School is inviting applications for a Teaching Assistant who has relevant experience of working with children with high needs to work with our ASD/SEN pupils in the Mead SEND Unit. The successful candidate will be calm and patient, have an extremely flexible attitude and:

  • Be positive, confident and open to developing their knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching and learning, and SEND
  • Be flexible and compassionate
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils and able to use a variety of strategies to meet individual needs
  • Understand the importance of healthcare needs, cleanliness and hygiene in the SEND Unit and be ready to carry out personal care for pupils including nappy changing
  • Be enthusiastic, confident and able to use their initiative
  • Be patient and empathetic
  • Play a full part in the life of the school and committed to working in partnership with staff and parents

You will ideally have prior experience of working with pupils who have Autism, ADHD, Physical disabilities and/or pupils with medical needs. Due to the nature of the role, you may deal with a variety of conditions, so being able to adapt your supporting methods is essential. You will need to be physically fit and able to work outdoors and manage personal care for our children if required. An ability to motivate and engage children is essential.
