We are looking for an experienced and initiative-taking Traffic Operator to join our transport team and support the day-to-day operation of our pallet network services. This role is focused on ensuring the efficient movement of freight through the pallet network while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining effective communication with customers, drivers, warehouse colleagues, and network partners. The successful candidate will also provide support to the transport planning function and offer holiday cover for transport planners when required. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate inbound and outbound pallet deliveries and collections across the pallet network.
- Consult with pallet network hubs, member depots, customers, drivers, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Provide excellent customer service, acting as a key point of contact for customers regarding delivery updates, collection requests, service queries, and issue resolution.
- Monitor pallet movements and proactively resolve service issues, delays, missed collections, and delivery exceptions.
- Use pallet network systems and transport planning software to manage consignments, track performance, and maintain service standards.
- Support transport planning activities, including route optimisation and load planning during periods of annual leave, peak demand, and operational requirements.
- Adjust operational plans in real time to accommodate changing customer needs and unforeseen disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with driver hours regulations, vehicle weight restrictions, and company operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate transport records and provide regular reporting on service levels, vehicle utilisation, network performance, and key operational KPIs.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, service quality, and operational effectiveness.
- Provide general administrative support to the transport department as required.
- Understanding of health & safety policies and guidelines and their application in the workplace.
Experience & Skills Required
- Essential
- Experience using pallet network systems, ideally Palletways.
- Previous experience working within a pallet network environment (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Good working knowledge of pallet network systems and transport operations.
- Understanding of UK road networks, transport legislation, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a challenging environment.
- Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and transport management systems.
- An initiative-taking, flexible, and purposeful approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Desirable
- Previous route planning or transport planning experience.
- Experience using Palletways systems and processes.
- Knowledge of route optimisation and transport planning software.
- Experience providing operational support within a busy transport office.
- Forklift license.
Hours: 45 hours a week. Start times between 06:00 and 08:00, finish times between 16:00 and 18:00, shift dependant.
