MDLR Architects is hiring a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its London team. We draw by hand. We build with code. We design everything in between.

MDLR Architects is looking for a Part 2 architectural assistant who leads with design — someone for whom a sketchbook is as natural a tool as a screen and who brings the same graphic rigour to a planning submission as they do to a concept presentation. We’re a tight-knit, RIBA-chartered practice of ten people, delivering medium-sized multi-unit residential projects across London. Our work spans the full journey, from the first line on paper through planning, technical design and on-site delivery. We want someone who can own a moment in that process and make it better.

What we’re looking for:

  • Part 2 qualification with at least two years’ UK practice experience
  • Strong hand sketching and concept design ability (non-negotiable for this role)
  • A sharp graphic eye: layouts, presentations, visual storytelling
  • Working knowledge of Revit, Adobe Creative Suite and Lumion
  • Curiosity about what’s next — AI tools (Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT), Enscape, VR, 3D printing
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects without losing your standards
  • Clear, confident communication (written and spoken)

Where you’ll be working:

We recently moved into our own studio, a double-height, light-filled space we designed ourselves, at 12 Steedman Street, SE17 3AF, in the heart of Elephant & Castle. A short walk from the station, surrounded by a growing creative community, it feels exactly like the kind of place good work gets made.

In-house, you’ll find a 3D printer, CNC router, laser cutter and drones and a team that’s actively integrating AI into how we design and deliver. We see technology as a creative amplifier, not a shortcut.

How we work:

No hierarchy. No micromanagement. We trust our team to get the work done — in the studio, from home or wherever they do their best thinking. Flexible working is built into how we operate, not bolted on. We’ve worked this way long before it became the norm.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary, reviewed annually with performance bonus
  • Private medical insurance
  • Paid professional memberships
  • BIM Level 2 training and certification support
  • Support for further study and qualifications
  • Regular CPDs
  • Monthly team recognition

To apply:

Send your CV, a short covering letter and your portfolio via the ‘apply for job’ button below. Show us how you think, on paper, on screen or both. Please note if you have visa requirements or need to relocate. MDLR Architects is an equal opportunities employer. No agencies. Deadline: 14 days from posting.
