Our client is seeking an experienced and safety-focused O&M Engineer to join its growing operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, testing, and fault response of high voltage electrical systems up to 132kV across a range of industrial and renewable energy projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated HV professional with Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience who thrives in a hands‑on operational environment and is committed to maintaining the highest safety and technical standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform routine, scheduled, reactive and preventative inspection and maintenance of HV/LV equipment (up to 132kV), including switchgear, ring main units, transformers, circuit breakers, busbars, CT metering, protection and associated control systems.
- Plan, execute, and oversee HV switching schedules to achieve safety from the system in compliance with Company Safety Rules.
- Manage fault location, diagnostics, repair, and response activities.
- Produce remedial works quotations, compile Work Packages, Job Instructions and RAMS.
- Coordinate the work of technicians, supervise and mentor junior staff, conduct competency assessments/audits, and support team development.
- Manage individual project resource allocation.
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders and other interested parties to ensure individual project objectives, deliverables and expectations are managed/maintained.
- Plan and execute HV Switching, isolation, earthing up to 132kV.
- Ensure safety from the system issuing safety documentation in accordance with company/customer safety rules and operational procedures.
- Test installations and systems, analyse test data and compile test reports.
- Ensure that individual projects meet safety requirements/regulations and company QMS standards.
Required Qualifications / Experience:
- HNC in Electrical Engineering ideally in Power Distribution, or equivalent qualifications in electrical engineering or a related field, with additional certifications such as HV Senior Authorised Person (HVSAP), HV Switching Operations, or HV Safety Rules.
- Current or recent Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation with experience in the operation and maintenance of high voltage electrical systems (up to at least 33kV).
- Technical expertise in high voltage electrical systems, equipment, and protective devices, with the ability to troubleshoot electrical faults and anomalies and implement corrective actions.
- Experience with electrical testing (e.g., IR, continuity, pressure, VLF, Ductor), fault detection techniques, and outage planning.
- GWO Certifications for onshore wind farm work are advantageous but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations, standards, and best practices, with a focus on high voltage switching operations and electrical safety rules.
- Strong leadership and decision‑making skills, with the ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and make sound judgments in high‑pressure situations.
- Emergency First Aid is advantageous but not essential.
- CSCS/ECS is advantageous but not essential.
