MDE are working with a leading independent UK energy specialist as they look for an experienced Solar Project Engineer to join their expanding team. With over 25 years’ experience delivering specialist independent generation systems, the business provides a wide range of solutions that support clients’ energy requirements and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, adaptable and innovative, with the ability to manage multiple small to medium scale projects concurrently.
Role & Responsibilities
- Development of solar proposals using modelling software
- Producing drawings and layouts to a professional standard for planning, proposals and grid applications
- Attending technical site visits to validate initial designs and revise models where required
- Proposing initial electrical design concepts based on client infrastructure and reviewing with preferred electrical design/installation partners
- Creating cost estimates for the delivery of solar proposals
- Submitting, reviewing and challenging HV/LV grid connection offers from the relevant DNO
- Preparing technical specifications for invitations to tender and contracts for solar proposals
- Coordinating and reviewing tender submissions where an EPC contractor is utilised
- Project managing the construction of solar projects, including design modifications, technical support and contractor design reviews
- Working closely with procurement to manage and develop technical relationships with suppliers
The company has a growing solar portfolio ranging from ~500kW rooftop projects through to multi-MW ground-mounted schemes, offering an excellent opportunity to work across a varied pipeline during a period of significant growth.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in the design, costing and development of solar projects in the UK, with strong solar design capabilities and an appreciation of electrical design
- A strong track record of teamwork is important, as the project team has grown significantly in recent years and continued collaboration and process improvement will be essential
What are we looking for?
- Experience managing solar design projects cradle-to-grave within the UK market
- Ability to prioritise workload across multiple projects at different stages, managing time effectively to support budget control
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build internal and external relationships
- Proactive mindset with the confidence to suggest improvements and identify opportunities
- Commercial awareness, ideally including exposure to contractor claims and change orders
- Relevant solar design experience and competency using software such as PVSol (must have), PvDesign, SolarEdge Designer
