The company delivers large scale solar PV projects across the UK and Europe, supporting the construction, commissioning and grid connection of utility scale renewable energy assets.
The company is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support several solar PV projects currently moving through the commissioning phase. The preference is for a contractor who can step into the role quickly and provide interim support across multiple sites. The position requires someone with a strong electrical background who has been involved in the commissioning and energisation of utility scale renewable projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience taking projects from construction through commissioning and grid connection, working closely with site teams, DNOs and engineering teams to deliver successful energisation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead electrical commissioning activities on utility scale solar PV projects
- Prepare and execute commissioning plans, procedures and test documentation
- Carry out testing and energisation of HV and MV electrical systems including transformers, switchgear and protection systems
- Coordinate commissioning works with site teams, subcontractors and project engineers
- Liaise with DNOs and client representatives during grid connection and energisation
- Identify faults, carry out troubleshooting and ensure systems meet technical specifications
- Produce commissioning reports, testing documentation and handover records
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in line with safety and compliance standards
Electrical commissioning engineers typically oversee testing, commissioning and energisation of HV systems while ensuring installations meet design and safety requirements.
Ideal Candidate- Electrical engineering background with strong hands on commissioning experience
- Experience commissioning utility scale solar PV or renewable energy projects
- Experience with HV or MV systems typically up to 33 kV or above
- Knowledge of grid connection processes and DNO requirements
- SAP or HV authorisation experience preferred
- Ability to travel to project sites across the UK and stay away when required
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to work independently on site
- Contract preferred for interim support
- Initial project support across multiple solar PV sites
- Permanent option possible for candidates looking to progress into a Grid Connections Manager role
