20 x Plater/Fabricators Needed for Major Project in Devon

Position: Plater / Fabricator (Shipbuilding) x 20

Contract Type: CIS

Contract Length: Long term programme, estimated 6 to 8 years overall

Location: Appledore, North Devon

Start Date: March 2026 (second intake planned for June 2026)

Rate: £27.00 – £40.50 per hour

Accommodation and Travel allowance: £401.67 per week

We require experienced Platers who can work to high standards in a heavy engineering shipyard environment. You should be confident working from drawings, fitting steel and platework to tolerance, and supporting production on large new build vessel sections. A trade test will be required as part of selection (details to confirm). BPSS security clearance will be conducted, so you will need a valid right to work in the UK and be able to pass BPSS checks.

  • Pay rate: Days £2,230.92 to £2,463.80 per week (58.5 to 64.25 paid hours, depending on OT)
  • Includes lodge (£355.67 per week) and travel (£46.00 per week) allowances
  • Day core rate: £27.00 per hour CIS for the first 40 hours per week
  • Day overtime rate: £40.50 per hour CIS (paid after 40 hours, 1.5x day rate)
  • Nights £2,587.32 to £2,820.20 per week (58.5 to 64.25 paid hours, depending on OT)
  • Includes lodge (£355.67 per week) and travel (£46.00 per week) allowances
  • Night core rate: £35.91 per hour CIS for the first 40 hours per week (1.33x day rate)
  • Night overtime rate: £40.50 per hour CIS (paid after 40 hours, OT is paid at the day overtime rate)

Site access and certifications:

  • Valid CSCS Card or CCNSG Safety Passport
  • Relevant trade certification or apprenticeship

Experience and capability:

  • Experience in heavy engineering, shipbuilding, or structural fabrication
  • Fitting and assembling steel and platework to acceptable tolerances
  • Assisting to create steel frames and unit builds, plus supporting refit and repair operations where required
  • Ability to work from engineering drawings
  • Confident using hand tools and preparation tools safely
  • Experience with overhead cranes and lifting equipment
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces

Clearance and eligibility:

  • BPSS clearance check to be conducted
  • Right to work in the UK required

Project timeline:

The programme is expected to run for around 6 to 8 years, with the first intake starting March 2026 and a second intake planned for June 2026.
