The Opportunity
You'll play a pivotal role as a primary point of contact with our valued members, offering expert legal advice and support within a scheme of delegated responsibility. You'll also collaborate with our exceptional colleagues and contribute towards MDDUS' values and customer promises under the guidance of our Legal Services leadership team. This role will primarily focus on litigation, and interested applicants should have previous clinical negligence and regulatory experience as well as a good understanding of procedures in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal services to members on civil claims, GMC/GDC investigations, MPTS hearings, FAIs, and general advice queries.
- Settling claims within approved limits for damages and costs, with authority to delegate decisions to junior legal staff.
- Collaborating with medical and dental advisors to support member services.
- Assisting other departments, including contributing to publications, providing training to MDDUS staff and members, advising risk committees and actuaries, and helping develop protocols, policies, and initiatives as needed.
