We are looking for an ambitious and commercially focused Commercial Manager – MEP to lead the commercial strategy and delivery on a major £60 million mechanical and electrical project in Derby. Reporting to the Project Director and Commercial Director, you will be responsible for leading the project’s commercial team, managing contract performance, commercial risks and opportunities, and ensuring commercial best-practice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the project’s commercial function, including mentoring and directing the commercial team.
- Develop and implement the commercial strategy for the project, from pre-tender through to final account.
- Advise senior leadership on commercial risks, opportunities, contract compliance and forecast performance.
- Oversee contract administration, including valuations, change control, risk and opportunity registers, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure timely submission and receipt of applications for payment, managing cashflow and contract milestones.
- Monitor and report on cost performance, forecasting revenue, contingencies, liabilities and project profitability.
- Work closely with the supply chain to agree terms and conditions, including subcontractor commercial management.
- Support negotiation of contractual positions, commercial disputes and final account settlements.
- Prepare and present commercial reports for internal stakeholders and client reviews.
- Proven experience managing commercial delivery on MEP or building services projects of significant value (ideally £50 m+).
- Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing commercial teams.
- In-depth knowledge of NEC contracts (preferred) and other major UK construction contracts.
- Excellent commercial, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial acumen, including cost management, cash-flow forecasting and reporting.
- Degree/HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction or related field (desirable).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
