We’re on the hunt for an Export Controls Coordinator to join us, based in any of our UK offices in Harwell, Stevenage, Manchester or Farnborough. MDA Space’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication technology.

Reporting to the Corporate Manager, Trade Compliance in Canada, the Export Control Coordinator is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and communicating policies and procedures, which ensure compliance with all applicable trade controls to assure MDA Space is in compliance with all regulations set forth by the U.K. Strategic Export Control Lists and other relevant jurisdictions and international export control regulations (EU, Canada, Israel and/or United States).
Responsibilities:
- Review and complete End-User statements.
- Apply for re-exports re-transfer authorisations for US-origin products with the US Department of State or Commerce.
- Liaise with multiple departments/teams (logistics, supply chain, engineering, etc.) to ensure all required export licences are in place for the release of hardware, software or technology (electronic transfers).
- Responsible for the management of the U.K.'s online export licensing system (SPIRE) and processes related to it including but not limited to applications of Standard Individual Export Licences (SIELs) and Open General Export Licences (OGELs), fulfilling reporting conditions, advisory opinions assuring complete accuracy of applications with the UK Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external export compliance queries (E.U., U.K and U.S.) to ensure compliance with all regulations (including U.S. ITAR / EAR regulations).
- Liaise with different local and foreign government agencies/officials for trade controls related matters maintaining a high level of tact and diplomacy.
- Oversee controls on the electronic transfer of technical data and software.
- Liaise with and support other MDA Space locations worldwide on all tasks in this job description.
- Review & keep track of Technical Assistance Agreements, DSP-5s and other different export approvals and liaise with PMO to ensure compliance and suitability.
- Conduct export control reviews and assessments to determine export control classification (E.U., U.K., Canadian, Israel and U.S. regimes).
- Assist in the determination of export license requirements.
- Review and provide export control related instructions to the shipping team prior to shipments departing our facilities.
- Monitor updates to export controls and sanctions legislation (UK, EU, Israel and US) and assess the impact on business operations.
- Ensure there is no unauthorized access to controlled hardware or technology which includes managing access to segregated computer directories, facilities, etc.
- Provide training and awareness sessions on U.K, EU and U.S. Export Controls to MDA Space employees.
- Report risks to management on a periodic basis highlighting any issues along with strategies for risk mitigation.
- Devise creative ways to solve export issues as they arise keeping in mind the business reality of continuing work.
- Support with compliance investigations & internal audits.
- Support all data management efforts to ensure data controlled for regulatory reasons is properly marked, labeled and handled.
- Perform background checks on new hires.
- Responsible for the Anti Corruption Due Diligence.
- Conduct Third-Party risk assessments to identify risks associated with third parties in Europe and Israel.
- Support other trade-compliance tasks as well as security related as required by the Manager.
Suitable Candidates Will Ideally Have The Following Attributes:
- A minimum of 3 Years of Experience in export controls and compliance.
- Knowledge of U.K., EU export regulations and compliance requirements, the Strategic Export Control Lists.
- Knowledge of US and/or Israel export controls is a plus.
- Good understanding of anticorruption and due diligence practices policies and procedures.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with all levels of the organization and external customers.
- Possess good judgement and the ability to resolve complex export related issues.
- Must be deadline oriented and flexible and be able to work under pressure.
- Good understanding of space technology would be a definite asset.
- Language proficiency in Hebrew is a plus.
