Responsibilities:
- Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers developing FPGA/ASIC based satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits.
- Management of complex hardware development and manufacturing activities.
- Responsible throughout the hardware product development lifecycle for the specification, design and testing.
- Detailed circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and electronic simulation.
- Engineering analysis and documentation (Derating, Worst Case, Reliability, Radiation, EMI/EMC Analysis, FMECA, Power Budget).
- Supporting hardware/software/system integration, test, validation and qualification.
- Directing in‑house and 3rd party PCB layout design teams.
- Deliver prototype and product quality manufacturing packages.
- Playing an active role in the leadership of the team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 13‑15+ years’ experience in a hardware product design role, in the space or an equivalent high reliability/safety sector.
- Experience of line management or leading large multi‑functional teams would be an asset.
- Expertise of high speed digital design and Serdes interconnects.
- Experience of design and manufacture of complex circuits and multi‑layer (10+) HDI PCBs.
- Knowledge of LEO/GEO communications payloads.
- Experience of circuit and PCB design and simulation tools.
- Specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous: High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc.), RF design and validation, Electronic circuitry radiation effects and mitigation techniques, DC/DC power supply design, Knowledge of environmental, thermal, safety and EMI/EMC standards, Practical use of scripting languages Tcl/Python/Perl etc.
