We’re on the hunt for a Senior Assembly Technician at our Harwell office.
Responsibilities- Assemble and integrate mechanical and electrical components, sub-assemblies, and systems according to technical drawings and work instructions.
- Perform electrical wiring, cable harnessing, and connector terminations following industry standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620).
- Perform soldering and rework activities following industry standards (e.g., IPC-J-STD-001).
- Creating and maintaining risk assessments.
- Record test data accurately and complete all documentation required by the project or quality management system.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot assembly or test issues and support engineering in root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD‑safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, and quality assurance procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the AIT department.
- ONC / HNC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic Engineering (or relevant experience).
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in a hands‑on assembly, integration, or test role—ideally within aerospace, defense or electronics.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Strong practical skills in mechanical fitting, wiring, and assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience using hand tools, torque tools, and test instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
- Good problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of health & safety and cleanroom/ESD practices.
- Fibre optics handling and cleaning experience.
