Senior Assembly Technician

We’re on the hunt for a Senior Assembly Technician at our Harwell office.

• Assemble and integrate mechanical and electrical components, sub-assemblies, and systems according to technical drawings and work instructions.
• Perform electrical wiring, cable harnessing, and connector terminations following industry standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620).
• Perform soldering and rework activities following industry standards (e.g., IPC-J-STD-001).
• Creating and maintaining risk assessments.
• Record test data accurately and complete all documentation required by the project or quality management system.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot assembly or test issues and support engineering in root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD‑safe working environment.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, and quality assurance procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the AIT department.

• ONC / HNC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic Engineering (or relevant experience).
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in a hands‑on assembly, integration, or test role—ideally within aerospace, defense or electronics.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Strong practical skills in mechanical fitting, wiring, and assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience using hand tools, torque tools, and test instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
• Attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
• Good problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of health & safety and cleanroom/ESD practices.
• Fibre optics handling and cleaning experience.
