We are now in search of a Quality Control Inspector to join our Product Assurance team.
Our products need to be able to survive in space for up to 15 years with minimal input from the ground, hence quality must meet the highest standards.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to join our Product Assurance team supporting the manufacture of high-reliability electronic hardware.
Working alongside our Quality Assurance and Product Assurance engineers, you will perform inspection and verification activities throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring hardware is manufactured in accordance with approved designs, processes, workmanship standards, and customer requirements.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement and Product Assurance teams to identify quality issues, support problem resolution, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of electronic hardware, PCB assemblies, components, cables, and mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Verify product conformity against engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing instructions, inspection plans, and customer requirements.
- Inspect PCB and PCB assemblies, including component placement, solder joints, workmanship, cleanliness, and assembly quality in accordance with workmanship standards such as IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, ECSS-Q-ST-70-60C and ECSS-Q-ST-70-61C.
- Support first article inspections (FAI), production inspections, and quality gate reviews.
- Verify compliance with ESD, FOD, cleanliness, component handling, and traceability requirements.
- Support inspection of manufacturing processes including soldering, conformal coating, cable and harness assembly, bonding, and mechanical integration.
- Review manufacturing records and quality documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Identify and document non-conforming hardware, support containment activities, and contribute to root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Participate in Nonconformance Review Board (NRB) activities as required.
- Support the development and improvement of inspection plans, work instructions, and quality processes.
- Support internal, customer, and supplier audits when required.
- Maintain awareness of calibration requirements for inspection and measurement equipment.
- Work in accordance with applicable quality standards, including ECSS, IPC, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
Qualifications, Experience And Competencies
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in a Quality Control, Quality Inspection or Manufacturing Quality role within an electronics or electro-mechanical manufacturing environment or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience inspecting electronic hardware, PCB/PCB assemblies, and electro-mechanical products.
- Experience with non-conformance processes and corrective actions.
- Understanding of ESD control, packaging and cleanliness requirements, and component handling and storage.
- Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
- Experience in inspection methods, measurement techniques and defect identification methods.
- Experience raising and managing non-conformances.
- Experience in root cause analysis and failure investigation methods
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with PCB assembly and electronic hardware inspection.
- Space, aerospace, automotive or other high-reliability industry experience.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or related workmanship standards.
- Experience supporting First Article Inspection activities.
