Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers developing FPGA/ASIC based satellite telecommunication payloads for a variety of orbits.
  • Management of complex hardware development and manufacturing activities.
  • Responsible throughout the hardware product development lifecycle for the specification, design and testing.
  • Detailed circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and electronic simulation.
  • Engineering analysis and documentation (Derating, Worst Case, Reliability, Radiation, EMI/EMC Analysis, FMECA, Power Budget).
  • Supporting hardware/software/system integration, test, validation and qualification.
  • Directing in‑house and 3rd party PCB layout design teams.
  • Deliver prototype and product quality manufacturing packages.
  • Playing an active role in the leadership of the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 13‑15+ years’ experience in a hardware product design role, in the space or an equivalent high reliability/safety sector.
  • Experience of line management or leading large multi‑functional teams would be an asset.
  • Expertise of high speed digital design and Serdes interconnects.
  • Experience of design and manufacture of complex circuits and multi‑layer (10+) HDI PCBs.
  • Knowledge of LEO/GEO communications payloads.
  • Experience of circuit and PCB design and simulation tools.
  • Specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous: High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc.), RF design and validation, Electronic circuitry radiation effects and mitigation techniques, DC/DC power supply design, Knowledge of environmental, thermal, safety and EMI/EMC standards, Practical use of scripting languages Tcl/Python/Perl etc.
