We’re on the hunt for a Digital Hardware Design Engineer. MDA’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication technology. As our presence grows overseas, so does our need for new ambitious team players to help us advance our place in the Universe and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers developing FPGA/ASIC based satellite telecommunication payloads, instruments, and sensors.
  • Leadership and mentoring other engineers in the hardware team.
  • Responsible throughout the Hardware product development lifecycle for the specification, design and testing SoC IP and Firmware integration.
  • Detailed circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and electronic simulation.
  • Engineering analysis and documentation (Derating, Worst Case, Reliability, Radiation, EMI/EMC Analysis, FMECA, Power Budget).
  • Supporting Hardware/Software/System integration, test, validation and qualification.
  • Directing in-house and 3rd party PCB layout design teams.
  • Deliver prototype and product quality manufacturing packages.

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • 5-8 plus years experience in a hardware product design role.
  • Hands on experience in the design of products with AMD SoC’s / FPGAs, including Firmware integration.
  • Design of complex, high speed circuits implemented as high density, multi-layer (10+) PCBs.
  • Working experience of circuit and PCB design and simulation tools (e.g. LTSpice, Allegro, ADS, Hyperlynx, HFSS, CST).
  • FPGA design with Verilog/VHDL.
  • In addition, specialist knowledge in any of the following areas would be advantageous: High reliability design and analysis (Space, Military, Automotive, etc), RF design, Design for mass manufacture, DC/DC power supply design, Knowledge of environmental, thermal, safety and EMI/EMC standards, Practical use of scripting languages Tcl/Python/Perl etc.
