We’re on the hunt for a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer at our Stevenage, Harwell or Manchester office. MDA Space’s international footprint in the UK creates opportunities to work with some of the most exciting space industrial players in the country. Delivering all three business area capabilities in Geointelligence, Robotics & Space Operations, and Satellite Systems, our UK team provides support to our European-based customers while specializing in the development of advanced space sensors for exploration missions as well as space-based communication technology.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct static, dynamic, and thermoelastic analyses using standard structural analysis techniques and tools such as NX/Nastran, alongside other commercial or in-house software.
  • Perform component sizing, propose design modifications, and provide guidance to ensure optimal designs.
  • Develop test predictions to support static and dynamic testing efforts.
  • Communicate design recommendations effectively to stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prepare, review, and present detailed analysis findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Ensure all analysis work is thoroughly documented, with files and conclusions organized, trackable, traceable, and reproducible.
  • Conduct peer reviews of analysis work performed by team members to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • When acting as Mechanical Project Team Lead: take responsibility for delivering all mechanical work packages on a programme, coordinating and aligning the efforts of Thermal, Structural, and Design engineers to meet schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, required.
  • At least 5 years of direct experience in structural dynamics (modal, sine, random), as well as static and thermoelastic analyses.
  • Proficiency in using FEA software packages such as NASTRAN and Femap, preferably within NX.
  • Expertise in performing static analysis, frequency response, random vibration, and shock analyses.
  • Hands-on experience with structural testing, including vibration and modal tests.
  • Strong ability to produce high-quality documentation and presentations to convey analysis methodologies and conclusions effectively.
  • Confidence in presenting and defending analysis results to peers and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with fatigue evaluation and life assessment of electronic equipment.
Suitable candidates will ideally have the following attributes:
  • Multitasking ability.
  • Ability to identify and prioritize key issues in a design.
  • Experience with electronic packaging and vibration testing.
  • Experience in the space industry and understanding of electrical requirements are assets.
