MCS Group is delighted to partner with our client in the search for a Senior Electrical/Power Systems Engineer for the role of Metering, Protection & Power Systems Transient Analysis Senior Engineer. This role is based in Belfast and offers hybrid working. This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of transforming Northern Ireland's energy landscape.

The Role

This specialist senior engineering role supports grid metering operations, protection policy compliance, and transient system analysis. You'll manage the operation and development of high speed recording systems (e.g. PMUs and disturbance recorders), analyse grid events and system behaviour (such as oscillations and harmonics), and lead fault investigations. The role involves stakeholder engagement, coding development, technical reporting, and supporting regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support metering systems, including fault resolution and installation.
  • Lead compliance and policy for system protection.
  • Investigate power system faults and events and report correctly.
  • Analyse transient system behaviour and support control room operations.
  • Develop tools, scripts, and reports for data analysis and stakeholder communication.
  • Support team development and continuous process improvement.

What You'll Need

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant power systems experience (min. 3 years).
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to extract and manipulate data, with advanced coding skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Stakeholder and industry knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Advanced Excel and strong general IT skills.
  • Innovative and adaptable with a proven teamworking approach.

Desirable:

  • Experience studying power system behaviours (e.g. harmonics, oscillations).
  • Higher degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience using PI Vision.
