MCS Group is currently seeking a Waste Resource Management Chargehand for a position within a Key Public Body. This role is based across various Recycling Centres within the borough, including Bruslee, Craigmore, Crumlin, Newpark, and O'Neill Centres. You will lead the day-to-day supervision of Household Recycling Centres, ensuring services meet high-quality standards and remain legally compliant. This is a fantastic opportunity for a supervisory professional to manage human and physical resources while driving continuous service improvement in a vital public sector operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Supervision: Oversee the day-to-day operations of Household Recycling Centres, including the deployment and control of operative.
- Site Management: Ensure centres are clean, customer-focused, and open/closed at designated times.
- Resource Management: Assist in managing fleet, plant, and equipment, ensuring all are maintained and operated safely and legally.
- Quality Control: Monitor and maintain high standards for recyclable materials collected on-site.
- Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate records regarding performance, fleet, and "Duty of Care" legislation.
- Team Leadership: Participate in recruitment, disciplinary processes, and absence management while delivering induction training and toolbox talks to staff.
- Customer Service: Act as a point of contact for the public, handling queries and promoting commercial waste disposal services.
Essential Criteria
- Qualifications: A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including English and Maths, or equivalent. Note: Candidates without these qualifications may be considered if they can demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience: At least 1 year of relevant supervisory experience (e.g., in refuse collection, street cleansing, or household recycling centres).
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations (including manual handling) and proficiency in Microsoft Office/Windows applications.
- Driving Licence: A full current driving licence or access to a suitable form of transport to carry out the duties of the post.
Desirable Criteria:
- Recognised First Aid or Fire Warden training.
- Certificate of Technical Competence in Recycling Centre operations.
- Experience addressing employee relations in a unionised environment.
