MCS Group is collaborating with an innovative provider of intelligent building controls and smart infrastructure technology to appoint a Business Development Manager for Northern Ireland. This position suits a results-driven sales specialist with a solid technical foundation and strong commercial instincts. The successful individual will focus on originating new business streams, shaping specifications at pre-construction stage, and promoting connected, insight-led building systems to contractors, consultants, and portfolio owners undertaking modernisation programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accelerate regional sales performance across BMS projects, retrofit schemes, and integrated smart building deployments.
  • Establish and deepen strategic partnerships with M&E contractors, consulting engineers, and principal contractors, while also engaging directly with asset owners and facilities leaders.
  • Engage at early design phase to guide system selection, advocating IoT-enabled, cloud-integrated solutions in place of conventional DDC platforms.
  • Generate and manage a structured opportunity pipeline, overseeing the bid process end-to-end from qualification through tender submission and award.
  • Lead educational engagement with clients, including CPD presentations, to demonstrate value in areas such as energy analytics, digital dashboards, occupancy tracking, and system interoperability.
  • Work alongside technical and estimating teams to develop accurate costings, detailed proposals, and technical submissions based on project drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor industry developments including AI-enabled fault detection, subscription-based building analytics platforms, and decarbonisation strategies.
  • Hold full commercial accountability for projects ranging from smaller £50k installations to major programmes exceeding £1m.

Essential Skills & Criteria

  • Demonstrable success in BMS sales or technical business development within construction, building services, or the M&E sector.
  • Technically competent, with the ability to articulate protocols such as BACnet and core networking principles clearly to varied audiences.
  • Strong industry network across consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Confident discussing established systems (Trend, Tridium, Schneider, etc.) as well as modern integrations incorporating APIs, cloud visualisation tools, and wireless sensor technologies.
  • Experience navigating extended sales cycles, with a sharp focus on margin control and commercial viability.
  • Credible communicator capable of influencing both on-site project teams and board-level decision-makers.
  • Self-motivated, opportunity-focused, and disciplined in pipeline tracking and revenue forecasting.
